Project Description

This project involved the construction of an upgrade to a pump station on the Bow River for the University of Calgary. Tritech was responsible for replacing the mechanical and electrical apparatuses that had exceeded their service life and could no longer keep up with capacity. The primary purpose of the Pump Station was to supply untreated river water for air conditioning.

  • Removal and replacement of existing pumps with four 500 HP pumps and motors, MCC panels, electrical transformers, discharge valves, check valves and associated instrumentation and controls.
  • Installation of new magnetic flow meter and modification of header piping as necessary.
  • Construction of new transformer yard and surge tank building.
  • Installation of new surge tank and all associated appurtenances, including connecting piping to the existing header piping.

  • Tritech was required to maintain full operational capacity of the facilities during the construction of upgrades to the original pump station. This was essential to ensure minimal disruptions to the cooling/HVAC services as required by the owner. We also used special noise attenuation procedures due to the site’s location in a high density residential area to minimize disruption to the public and ensure the owner’s satisfaction.
